TCF Announces Major Donation to Middle East Technical University

TCF and the Middle East Technical University (METU) signed a protocol paving the way for the establishment of a new electrical engineering research center. Under the protocol, TCF will build the solar powered facility turn-key and donate it to METU as a state-of-the-art science and research center. The facility is expected to be finished by 2012.


SOFA New York

The SOFA New York show is taking place on April 14-17 at the Park Avenue Armory. Participating in SOFA for the fifth year, the TCF showcase of modern Turkish art will present Yildanur Ketenci, Semra Ecer, Ayhan Tomak and Ebru Dosekci at SOFA New York. TCF's participation and Turkish artists at SOFA was highlighted in an article in the Art Daily and many other publications.


TCF Lectures

The TCF Istanbul Office will host a special event on April 9, celebrating April 23, National Sovereignty and Children's Day in Turkey. Sebnem Oral, educator, author and storyteller will present fairytales from her children’s book “Musical Story Baskets.”

The TCF Istanbul Lectures will also feature two prominent speakers in April. Dr. Ufuk Kacabas, Chair of the Istanbul University Department of Conservation of Marine Archaeological Objects, will speak on April 21 on the topic of "The Byzantine Shipwrecks at Yenikapi." Ms. Ayse Erdogdu, an expert on Chinese and Japanese porcelain, will deliver a lecture on April 22, titled “Chinese Porcelain at the Topkapi Palace.” The Istanbul lecture program and videos of past lectures can be viewed online at the TCF website.

Dr. Recep Karadag, who heads the TCF Natural Dye Research and Development Laboratory, DATU, will be speaking at the International Symposium and Exhibition on Natural Dyes in La Rochelle, France on April 24-30. Dr. Karadag's presentation will be on the “Analysis of 16th Century Ottoman Silk Brocades and their Reproductions.” TCF will also sponsor an exhibition on reproduced Ottoman Silk Brocades at the event.


TCF Sponsors Istanbulive 3

For the 3rd year, TCF has become a major sponsor of Istanbulive3: Sounds of Civilizations, a celebration of Turkish modern music organized as part of the SummerStage Concerts in Central Park, New York. Presented by Serdar Ilhan & Mehmet Dede Productions, Istanbulive3 will take place on June 17, 2011 and will be headlined by Zulfu Livaneli, renowned Turkish composer, musician, writer and film director. To listen to the music of Zulfu Livaneli, whose music has touched generations in Turkey, visit the TCF Turkish Music Portal.


TCF Sponsors 10th Boston Turkish Film Festival

TCF has provided a major grant to the Turkish American Cultural Society of New England in support of the 10th Annual Boston Turkish Film Festival. The festival takes place from March 24 to April 30, 2011 and will feature 16 films, highlighting contemporary Turkish cinema and filmmakers.

TCF Artist Grant

TCF sponsored Lerna Babikyan, Turkish contemporary dancer and performer, to participate in the SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre's Bi-Annual Dance and Physical Theater Festival in Santa Barbara on June 15 - 19, 2011.


Washington Turkish Festival Voted Best DC Festival

Washington City Paper readers voted the Washington Turkish Festival as the “Best Festival” of the area. The Washington Turkish Festival ranked first, followed by the DC Short Film Festival and the famed Cherry Blossom Festival. The Turkish Festival is organized by the American Turkish Association of Washington, DC and has been sponsored by TCF since its inception.


Tanpinar Novel, A Mind at Peace/Huzur Now Available in Paperback

Turkish novelist Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar's book A Mind at Peace/Huzur was translated into English by Duke University professor Erdag Goknar and published by Archipelago Books in 2008 with funding from TCF. An updated paperback edition of the book is now available.


San Diego Museum of Man Celebrates Turkey

The San Diego Museum of Man in Balboa Park, San Diego, will celebrate Turkey on April 28, featuring Turkish music, dance and cuisine. The event is sponsored by a TCF grant to House of Turkey, which organizes this event with the Museum, as well as other, year-around Turkish cultural events in Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in the United States.


TCF Awards Turkey Study Tour Grant

The Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI was awarded a grant for a photography course and study tour in Turkey. The tour will be led by Terry Abrams, a professional photographer and faculty member of the College. The course will take 20 photography students to Turkey on May 19-31. Terry Abrams was a guest on the TCF 2010 Cultural Tour.
