TCF provided a grant to support a second exhibition of Stone Sounds: Echoes from 4,000 Years at Sinop Kale (Sinop Fortress) at the Explorer’s Club in New York City. The exhibition was displayed at the Explorer’s Club during the beginning of May, and was highlighted by Sinop Festival 2017 on May 4 with an evening of food, music, and film inspired by Sinop’s rich history. The exhibition explores the history of the fortress of Sinop, a historical and archaeological site on the Black Sea coast of Turkey. Through the use of images and sound recordings from Sinop and the excavations at the fortress, the exhibition allow viewers to experience the history of an important port in the Black Sea/Eurasian world. The exhibit was created and produced by artists Sven Anderson and Erkan Akliman, and the Sinop fortress excavations are led by Dr. Owen Doonan of California State University Northridge and Dr. Alex Bauer of Queens College of the City University of New York.

TCF Executive Director Güler Köknar gave a presentation on the mission and work of TCF  at a conference organized by the UNESCO Turkish National Commission in Ankara on May 31. The event was held as a networking and information sharing session with various NGO's in areas that fall under the UNESCO mission area, specifically aimed at exploring areas of cooperation under UNESCO's "2030 Sustainable Development Goals." TCF has been in official relations with UNESCO since 2015.

Dr. Recep Karadağ and Ms. Emine Torgan of TCF’s Cultural Heritage Preservation and Natural Dyes Project participated in the “2nd International Natural Dyeing Symposium” at Akdeniz University in Antalya on May 10-12 and gave two presentations entitled “Reproduction of Ottoman silk brocades and the importance of natural dyes” and “Sustainability and the use of natural dyes on modern textiles: Armaggan Collection.”

In addition, Dr. Recep Karadağ and Ms. Emine Torgan participated in the “39th International Symposium on Excavations, Surveys and Archaeometry” at Merinos Atatürk Congress Culture Centre in Bursa on May 22-26. Their presentations were entitled “Investigation of archaeological remains from different materials and periods with instrumental methods of analysis” and “Archaeometric examination of Dascyleum textile remains and comparisons with textile samples found in other excavations.”

Makam New York's program Turkish Story Time, supported by a TCF grant, continues to present weekly programs in New York City. Turkish Story Time brings children and their caregivers together to learn about Turkish culture through reading stories in Turkish, learning songs, rhymes, and riddles, introducing instruments and advancing literacy. The program is recorded the first Saturday of every month at 4:00 pm at Book Culture on Columbus in New York City and is open to the public.
