The work of the TCF Cultural Heritage Preservation and Natural Dyes Laboratory and particularly its successful work on rediscovering the color and dyeing technique of Turkey Red was covered in the Turkish media.

Musician Dr. Evren Kutlay (TCF Fellow in Turkish Culture and Art-2017) presented her paper “Hints of Ottoman-American Musical Interactions from Nineteenth to Early Twentieth Centuries” at the First International Researches of of Turkish Culture-Arts-Language and Literature Conference in New York City, NY, August 15-18, 2017. Dr. Kutlay is an Associate Professor of Music at the Yildiz University Music and Performing Arts Department.

Interdisciplinary artist Meichen Waxer (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow-2015), an MAA student at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, was an Artist in Residence at the Treignac Projet in Treignac, France in August.

Performance artist Sena Başöz (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow-2014) is participating in the Cite Internationale des Arts residency program in Paris, France from July through September.

Heidi K. Brandow (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow-2015) participated in the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts’ (SWAIA) 96th Annual Santa Fe Indian Market in Santa Fe, New Mexico on August 19-20, 2017.

Glass sculptor Agâh Barış Can Aksakal (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow-2017) participated in a class on ‘Creating and Using Murrine’ at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, New York on August 7-12, 2017.

Composer Hakan Ulus (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow-2014) performed the world premiere of “Tariq” for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, piano and percussion at Ensemble Francaix at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne, Australia on August 22, 2017.

Poet and writer Nurduran Duman (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow - 2016) participated in ‘Struga Poetry Evenings’, the world’s oldest international poetry festival, in Macedonia on August 23-28, 2017. She was also invited to Versopolis night on August 24-25, 2017, where she had the opportunity to read her poetry to an international audience. The aim of the Versopolis poetry project is to create a unique, Europe-wide platform that gives emerging European poets the chance to become international poetry stars. Versopolis encompasses renowned literary festivals and aims to expose, connect, and bring the finest poetry closer to audiences.

Nurduran Duman’s poem “The River” (translated by UK poet Karen McCarthy Woolf) was published in Modern Poetry in Translation (MPT) a journal of poetry in translation published in the United Kingdom. MPT was founded in 1965 by Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort and is widely recognized as one of the leading English-language translation publications in the world.
