TCF Now Accepting Applications for UNESCO-Japan Prize

TCF will accept applications from individuals and entities in the United States and in Turkey for the UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development.

The Prize and award winners recognize the role of education in connecting the social, economic, cultural and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.

Only applications that comply with the Prize selection criteria will be evaluated for nomination. All applications must be received by TCF by March 30, 2018. Applications and supporting material must be sent to TCF_UNESCO@turkishculture.org.

Istanbul Breeze Art Exhibit opens in Portland

TCF and ARMAGGAN Art and Design Gallery partnered with Wild Shaman Gallery to bring Turkish contemporary art to Portland, Oregon. Previously exhibited in New York, “Istanbul Breeze” presented works by Aslı Kutluay, Dinçer Güngörür, Derya Özparlak, Meral Değer, Pembe Hilal Tüzüner, Camekan, Dilek Aydıncıoğlu, Ayşegül Kırmızı and Semra Özümerzifon. The exhibition consisted of three dimensional art and paintings by the artists and was opened on February 17. The exhibition is part of TCF’s long-standing efforts to promote Turkish contemporary art in the United States which, over the years, have allowed 53 Turkish artists to showcase their work to discerning audiences.

TCF Awards Grant to NCSU Turkish Student Association

TCF awarded a grant to sponsor the screening of the Turkish documentary film “Kedi-Cat” at North Carolina State University (NCSU). The film screening is organized by the Turkish Student Association at NCSU.

TCF Fellows Update

Roberley Bell (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow - 2015) held an exhibition entitled “Objects and Color” at the Black and White Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, USA. The exhibition will remain open until April 1, 2018.

Oud virtuoso Mehmet Polat (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow-2016) held a series of concerts in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht,  Netherlands in February and promoted his new album “Ageless Garden,” released last January.

Dancer, performer, choreographer and dance pedagogue Lerna Babikyan (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow-2011, 2016) performed the Improv Dance & Music Performance "In-Spheres" with Korhan Erel in Berlin, Germany on February 4. She also teaches a Creative Dance for Children Workshop at Lake Studios in Berlin, Germany from January 15th, every Monday.

Cellist, composer, improviser, and photographer Anıl Eraslan (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellow - 2014) held three concerts in February in Berlin, Germany. His concert series continued in İstanbul, performing as the Anil Eraslan Auditive Connection at Borusan Müzik Evi in Istanbul, Turkey on February 24.

Dancer and kemençe player İdris Ersan Küçük (TCF Cultural Exchange Fellows-2015) performed with Oğuz Demirci at Volume Alsancak in İzmir, Turkey on February 7.
